October was a good reading month for me, but it was a little bit of a let down after a great reading month in September.
September was one of my best reading months in a long time. I had several five star reads in September. In October I had one five star read and several that I would consider three star reads.
In October I also started many books that I didn’t finish. I think I currently have seven books that I am reading. I usually read several books at a time, but seven is too many. At least two of them are ones that I will probably not finish and hopefully, I will finish up the rest of them in November.
October Reads
The Watchmakers by Harry Lenga and Scott Lenga. This is a nonfiction WWII story that was an impulse buy at the airport. It turned out to be a book that I will not forget.
Rogues: True Stories of Grifters, Killers, Rebels, and Crooks by Patrick Radden Keefe. I read this one because I loved the author’s other book Empire of Pain. I would consider this one a three star read for me. I liked it, but didn’t love it.
Surviving Savanah by Patti Callahan Henry. I liked this book, but I didn’t love it. I knew nothing about the Pulaski, which some people called the Titanic of the South. The Pulaski was a steamship, full of wealthy southerners headed north for the summer, that sank in 1838. You can read my full review here.
Stealing Lumby by Gail Fraiser. This is the second book in the Lumby series. This series was on my list of books to read after Mitford. I love this series. It is a fun comfort read for me. It follows the small town of Lumby in the Pacific Northwest and the people that live there. This book has fun adventures and a mystery. If you need a cozy comfort read this is a good series.
Prisoners of the Castle by Ben Macintyre. I love Ben Macintyre’s writing. His books are auto buy books for me. This one is about a castle in Colditz, Germany that was turned into a prisoner of war camp during WWII for the most defiant and determined prisoners of war. You can read my full review here.
Glad You’re Here by Walker Hayes and Craig A. Cooper. A book about friendship, forgiveness, losing a child, struggles with alcohol, and more. You can read my full review here.
