Page 1 Books
I have tried several book subscriptions, but they haven’t always been for me. I was intrigued by Page 1’s Books book subscription though because it would be customized for me.
As I explained in my post about why I quit Book of the Month Club, I often feel like I am not your average reader.
I read some fiction, but it is usually backlist books, not new releases.
Most of the time though the majority of my reading really is nonfiction. I love history, memoirs, and biographies. I love a good fiction story, but I will almost always choose nonfiction above fiction.
Handpicked Books
The problem with most book subscriptions is that they are heavy on fiction, especially modern fiction. With Page 1 Books, I could fill out my preferences, and they would pick my monthly book based on that.
When I filled out the form for Page 1, I shared that I loved nonfiction, and I loved finding great backlist books that I had never heard of. I shared a few fiction books that I enjoyed, but I made it clear that I love nonfiction backlist books.
And they listened!
I am on my eighth month of getting the Page One Book subscription, and I love getting the package in the mail each week.
The books that they have sent me have been perfect.
My Montly Book Boxes
The first book box that I received was A Long Way Home. I had heard of the book, but I had not read it.
As soon as I saw the book, I knew that it was a perfect pick for me. I started reading it shortly after receiving it, and I finished it in just a couple of days.
The next month I received The Kidnapped Years, which sounds like a fascinating nonfiction read. Several in my family were excited to read this one.
The third book that I received is a mystery book, which I love. I am not sure I would have picked the book they sent, but I am willing to give it a try.
After trying the subscription for three months, I knew that I wanted to renew my subscription for a few more months.
My fourth month might have been my favorite book.
This is a new release, but I love Kristin Harmel’s books. This one is one that I put on to be read list as soon as I heard about it. Page 1 books picked the perfect book for me!
Fun Bookish Things
Each box is beautifully wrapped. I love opening my box each month to see what is inside.
The book is wrapped just like a gift. It is almost like getting a Christmas gift in the mail each month.
Every box also includes a bookmark and a fun bookish gift. My boxes have included things like mints, a small candle, a Page 1 glass, and more.
