This Week’s Bookshelf

It is time for This Week’s Bookshelf. Summer has been busy, so it has been a few weeks since I shared an old-school-style post where I share a little bit about everyday life, both bookish and non-bookish.

This Week’s Bookshelf is full of bookish things.

three current nonfiction reads

I am currently reading these three nonfiction books. I am enjoying all three, but London Falling is so good that I am grabbing it to read more often than the other two.

I am not even halfway through London Falling, but I can already tell that it is going to make my list of favorite books of the year.

I stopped by Books-A-Million recently. I kept picking up a book, reading about it, carrying it around the store while thinking about buying it, then putting it back, only to pick up another book and repeat the process.

This is why I love bookstores, though. It is so much fun to browse a store looking for books.

Speaking of bookstores, my husband and I stopped by Magic City Books last week. We received a gift card for Christmas last year and finally decided it was time to spend it.

While at Magic City Books, I learned that historical fiction author Julia Bryan Thomas is married to mystery writer Will Thomas, and they live in NE Oklahoma.

I have read books by Julia Bryan Thomas, but not Will Thomas. I love mystery books, so I can’t wait to read one of Will Thomas’ books.

My reading has been all over the place recently. I have been reading a lot, but I keep finding new subjects that I want to learn about.

I am currently reading a book about Russia and its last Tsar. I have four other books about Russia that I want to read soon.

I blame this, in a good way, on The Family Romanov by Candace Fleming that I read earlier this year. It is a YA nonfiction book that I enjoyed. I knew very little about that part of Russian history. After finishing the book, I knew that I wanted to learn more about Russian history.

The problem is that after finishing A Founding Mother by Stephanie Dray and Laura Kamoie, I also want to learn more about John and Abigail Adams, John Quincy Adams, and early American History.

I pulled a few books off my shelf on early American history and bought a book about John Quincy Adams and one about Abigail Adams. This then led me to a book about Mary Todd Lincoln.

The book A Founding Mother also led me to start a new fiction book challenge for myself, which I will share more about soon.

I feel like I have three different personal curricula going at the same time. Russian History, Early American history, and learning more about the various time periods in American history.

I love reading and learning through it. But sometimes keeping up with everything I want to learn is a lot. My TBR pile on the floor of my office is now huge because all the books above are now in it.

Anyone else have the same problem?

I love book darts, but they are so expensive. I read a lot, and in a good book, especially a good nonfiction book, I can use a lot of book darts, so I have switched to Post-it Note-type sticky tabs.

This week I ordered some of my favorite sticky tabs by Mr. Pen. Do you know about Mr. Pen? I love Mr. Pen products. Their sticky tabs, highlighters, and Bible pens are my favorite.

I also listed a bunch of books for sale on Pango. Whistler sold within minutes of my listing it. I could not believe how fast it sold. Pango has been a great way to clean off my bookshelves.

I would love to hear what bookish things you have been doing.
