What I Read September 2025

It is time to share what I read in September.

stack of books I read in September 2025

After a few slower reading months, my reading picked up in September. I ended up reading ten books. Two of them were nonfiction and eight were fiction.

I have also started reading a few Christmas books for a Christmas book project that I am working on, so you will see a few Christmas books on my list.

What I Read In September

I am sharing a few thoughts on each book. You can click on the book title for more information and a full review.

Fiction

Across the Crying Sands by Jane Kirkpatrick

Across the Crying Sands by Jane Kirkpatrick. This is a historical fiction book set in the late 1800s in Oregon. It is set near where I grew up, so this was a fun read for me.

The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion Vol. 5

The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion. I liked this one, but didn’t love it. I definitely enjoyed books three and four in the series better.

North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell

North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell. This was a reread for me. North and South is one of my favorite classic books. This is the third time I have read it, and I loved it just as much as I did last time I read it.

The Thursday Murder Club book

The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman. This was another reread for me. I read this one a couple of years ago, but wanted to reread it after watching the movie. This time I listened to the audiobook. If you are looking for a new mystery series, I have really enjoyed this series.

The Christmas Tree Farm by Melody Carlson. I am working on a Christmas book project, so I have already started reading some Christmas books. This was a fun read. It is another book set in Oregon, this time on a Christmas tree farm. If you like Hallmark movie-type books, I think you will enjoy this one. I did the audiobook for this one.

You Make It Feel Like Christmas book

You Make It Feel Like Christmas by Toni Shiloh. This book was fine, but it was a little bit too cheesy and unrealistic for me.

Catching Christmas

Catching Christmas by Terri Blackstock. I enjoyed this backlist book because it was so different than Christmas books being published now.

Midnight On the Scottish Shore

Midnight On the Scottish Shore by Sarah Sundin. This World War II historical fiction book is set in Scotland. I loved the unique setting for this book. I have read a lot of WWII fiction, but this is the first one that I have read set in Scotland.

Nonfiction

Destroy This House by Amanda Uhle

Destroy This House by Amanda Uhle. This memoir is about growing up in a dysfunctional family with parents who are hoarders. This is a bizarre story that I could not put down.

Holding It All Together When You Are Hypermobile by Christie Cox. I recently admitted in my list of best medical memoirs that I love to read medical memoirs. This was one of my most recent reads. This book may not be for everyone, but if you have POTS or a connective tissue disease, you will likely enjoy it.

I would love to hear what you have been reading.
