Lynn's Review

Holding It All Together When You Are Hypermobile by Christie Cox is a medical memoir published in 2022.

In Holding It All Together When You Are Hypermobile, Christie Cox shares her story of hypermobility, chronic illness, and pain. It is her story of navigating the medical world and living with a rare disease and diagnosis.

This book is not for everyone, but if you have POTS, EDS, or another connective tissue disease, this is a book you will probably benefit from.

I am not sure how much I want to say about this book because I don’t talk about my health issues or my family’s health issues much online. My story is long and complicated and my kids’ stories are for them to tell, not me.

I have always had health issues. As a child, I was extremely underweight. I have had asthma all my life. I had severe endometriosis and had multiple surgeries to deal with it. I could go on and on, but after having COVID-19 several times, my health took a complete nosedive.

Pre COVID I could function. Post-COVID has been a challenge with health issues after health issues.

I have always enjoyed reading books like “Holding It Together When You Are Hypermobile” because they help me navigate health challenges more effectively.

Books like this make me feel like others understand. Multiple times while reading this book, I found myself saying, ‘Yes, me too.’ Or you mean someone else has that happen to them, too.

If you enjoy medical memoirs, you might appreciate this one, but I think it is primarily for individuals with POTS or a connective tissue disease, or for those who know someone with one of these conditions.

I will add that I think the book is self-published, so there are a few typos and errors in it that would probably have been caught if it had undergone better editing.
