Book Review of
Grandma Gatewood’s Walk
Lynn's Review
Grandma Gatewood’s Walk by Ben Montgomery is a biography that was published in 2014.
Grandma Gatewood’s Walk is the inspirational story of a woman who hiked the Appalachian Trail, which is over 2000 miles, in 1955.
Recovering from an abusive and painful marriage, Grandma Gatewood not only hiked the Appalachian Trail alone, but she hiked it three times in her lifetime. At seventy-one, she also hiked the 2,000-mile Oregon Trail.
A follower on Instagram recommended this audiobook to me, and I knew I wanted to listen to it. It was a fun, inspiring story.
It is part hiking story and part recovery story. Weaved into the story of Grandma Gatewood’s hiking is her story of a difficult marriage and an abusive husband. Walking in many ways was her therapy. This book shares her inspiring story of hiking and how she overcame her difficult life.
Grandma Gatewood’s story is a reminder that you are never to old to try new things.
I really enjoyed this and am so glad it was recommended to me.
