The Queen's Coronation book review

The Queen’s Coronation by Jennifer Ryan is a historical fiction book.

Set in 1953 London, The Queen’s Coronation follows three women who work for the royal family as they get ready for the Queen’s coronation.

Lucy is a wardrobe assistant, Miranda is an American journalist working undercover as a clerical assistant, and Caroline is an assistant dresser to the Queen.

All three women are dealing with difficult life situations, and they manage both their home life and their jobs working for the Queen.

I love the single timeline setting of this book. So many historical fiction books are dual-timeline, but I always prefer a single-timeline book.

I also love how this book is about the Queen without making her the main focus. The Queen is there, but the three women are the stars of this story.

If I had one complaint about this book, it is that I didn’t love Lucy, one of the main characters. I didn’t like the decisions she made, and she seemed way too naive. I know women dealt with a lot post WWII, but Lucy made very bad choices, which led to more bad choices.

Overall though I am glad that I read The Queen’s Coronation by Jennifer Ryan.

I have read The Kitchen Front and love Jennifer Ryan’s writing style. This was a fun read, and I will definitely be reading more of her backlist.
