August 2022 Reads

It is time for my August 2022 reads.

It is already September 8th, so this post is a little late, but we can blame that on the holiday weekend.

August was a fairly good reading month for me with a good mix of fiction and nonfiction. None of the books that I read in August were five star reads, but they are all books that I am glad I read. You don’t always have to love a book to appreciate reading it.

August Reads

Click on the title of each book for a more detailed review and more information.

The Master Craftsman Book Review

The Master Craftsman by Kelli Stuart. This was an interesting read about Faberge eggs and what life was like in Russia during the time of the Romanoffs.

Mrs. Milk book review

Mrs. Mike by Benedict and Nancy Freedman was first published in 1947, so this is a backlist book. I liked this one, but you can tell that it was written years ago. Much of this book would probably not be written in this way today. I also feel like a very well-known Christian fiction writer may have been heavily influenced by this book.

Summer By the Sea book review

Summer By the Sea by Susan Wiggs is what I would consider a classic beach read, which is not my typical type of reading. I have mixed thoughts on this one so be sure to read my full review.

The Wedding Veil book reivew

The Wedding Veil by Kristy Woodson Harvey is another book that I would consider a beach read. I wanted to love this book, but I am not afraid to share my honest review, and this was not the book for me. If you have read it, I would love to hear what you thought of it.

A Mountain of Crumbs book review

A Mountain of Crumbs by Elena Gorokhova is a memoir of life in Russia. Not an easy read, but one I enjoyed. Be sure to read my full review on this one.

Mrs. Kennedy and Me book

Mrs. Kennedy and Me by Clint Hill is a book that I listened to on audio. Clint Hill, the author, was Jacqueline Kennedy’s secret service agent. This is the memoir of his time working with the Kennedys. I love to read books about the families of U.S. Presidents, so when I saw this book I knew it was one that I wanted to read.

Diamond Doris by Doris Payne is a true crime book I picked up when I was on vacation in Colorado. I love true crime books and had never heard of this one, so I thought it would be a good read. I have mixed thoughts on this one because of how it was written, so if you love true crime books be sure to read my full review.

I would love to hear what books you have read recently so leave a comment sharing yours.

  1. A Mountain of Crumbs sounds interesting, though I am sure it would be a tough read due to their country’s history. I remember enjoying Mrs. Mike, though it was a long time ago, so I can’t say I can pick out which modern Christian author you’re hinting at, LOL!

Hopping over from Modern Mrs Darcy’s Quick Lit. Linking my recent reads, if interested.
