Quite a few classics, that are still popular today, were published in the 1940s. One of the books that surprised me was the nonfiction classic, How To Read A Book by Mortimer J. Adler. I had no idea that it was published in 1940. It is a book many educators still use today.

Several authors were also very busy writing in the 1940s. C.S. Lewis, Laura Ingalls Wilder, and Agatha Christie all had quite a few books published in the 1940s.
