Christmas Devotionals

We are changing things up a little bit for this month’s Sunday Reading and we are sharing a list of Christmas Devotionals instead of sharing just one book.

If you are a new reader Sunday Reading is what I call my monthly, or almost every month, post where I share a Christian book that I have enjoyed.

Christmas Devotional Books

Christmas is a time of year to reflect on Christ’s birth and what it means for us. A great way to do that is with a Christmas or Advent devotional.

November and December are busy months of the year. There are family gatherings, shopping, gift buying, and many other things that take our attention away from the true meaning of the holidays.

This time of year we often need a daily reminder to focus on Christ and not on the world. In the midst of the craziness around us, we need to focus on Him.

One way to do that is with a Christmas devotional. I have found it very beneficial to pick up a daily devotional or book that reminds me to focus on the true reason for the season.

Emmanuel Book by Ruth Chou Simons

Over the years I have read various devotionals this time of year. There are many devotionals for Advent and Christmas, but I thought I would put together a list of some of my favorites.

If you have a favorite let us know in the comments. I would love to find new ones to read this time of year.

Christmas and Advent Devotionals

Emmanuel Book Review

Emmanuel by Ruth Chou Simons. This is the devotional that I bought to use this year. I read a book earlier this year by Ruth Chou Simons, so when I saw that she had a Christmas devotional I knew that I wanted to use it this year.

I have read the first few days to see how I thought I would like it. I think it is going to be the perfect book for me to use for devotions this year during December. Not only are the devotions good, the pictures and art are so well down.

Gifts of Grace by Jared C. Willson. This is a book bought to read last year during December. I really enjoyed it.

The Christmas We Didn't Expect

The Christmas We Didn’t Expect by David Mathis. This is an Advent Devotional that will remind you of the wonder and joy of Christ’s birth and why He came.

The Characters of Christmas

The Characters of Christmas by Daniel Darling. This book is not exactly a devotional, but it can easily be used as one. It is a walk through the Christmas story. It encourages you to slow down and look at the Christmas story in a little different way than we normally do.

This book gives you a look into the characters who played a part in the Christmas story. I read this book a couple of years ago and loved it. It is a book I can see myself reading over and over again. It also makes a great gift.

The First Songs of Christmas book

The First Songs of Christmas by Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth. This book is a little different because it is not about the Christmas songs that we sing, it is about the songs in the Bible in the first two chapters of Luke.

If you are looking for something a little different, but gives you a deeper look into the book of Luke, this is a great book to pick up.

Come Let Us Adore Him by Ted Tripp. A friend gave me this book a couple of years ago and I have read through it twice.

This book helps us to not focus on the hustle of the holidays and all that they involve and to focus on Christ instead.

Love Came Down at Christmas book

Love Came Down At Christmas by Sinclair Ferguson. I have not read this one, but I bought it several years ago and plan to read it this year. I have heard great things about this one.

What is your favorite Advent or Christmas devotional? I would love to hear your favorite in the comments.

    • I like her writing style especially for a book like this. It isn’t deep theology, it is more of a comforting reminder. I like a variety. Deep theology and though provoking books are great, for this year I wanted something a little different. I think Ruth Chou Simmons’ book will be good for that. I also think it would be good for a newer Christian or someone that hasn’t done a lot of Bible studying. I hope that makes sense.

    • I saw you post that on Instagram and thought it looked like a nice one. I have never done a journal style Christmas devotional. I hope that you enjoy it.
