Nonfiction Fiction Book Pairing about Spain

If you want to learn more about Spain during the 1930s and the 1950s this nonfiction fiction book pairing is a great way to do that.

two books about Spain

Book pairings are a fun way to learn more about a time or place by reading both the fiction and the nonfiction version of the story.

Our book pairings are often the real story behind the fiction book. That is what we did in the real story behind Before We Were Yours.

This book pairing is a little different. Instead of sharing the fiction and nonfiction versions of the same event or person, we are sharing about a place.

That place is Spain!

We are sharing a nonfiction fiction book pairing about Spain.

The fiction book is set in Madrid, Spain in 1957. The nonfiction book is about the 1930s and the Spanish Civil War.

These two books might be about a different time periods, but they are both a great way to learn about Spain and its culture.

I have never been to Spain, but reading books like these is a good way to learn about a time and place that I know very little about.

The Fountains of Silence book review

The Fountains of Silence

The Fountains of Silence by Ruta Sepetys is a novel based in Madrid in 1957, during the dictatorship of General Francisco Franco. Tourists and foreign businessmen flood into the country while Spain is hiding dark secrets amid the post war era.

The son of a Texas oil tycoon, who arrives in Madrid with his parents discovers love, secrets, and the lingering effects of the Spanish Civil War through his love of photography.

This story is a story full of history, love, war, violence, poverty, and more. I loved how the author wove the characters’ lives together. The author took characters from totally different backgrounds and classes and made them work in a believable way.

Spain In Our Hearts book review

Spain In Our Hearts

Spain In Our Hearts by Adam Hochschild is a nonfiction book set in Spain, in the 1930s, during the Spanish Civil War.

It was published in 2016. It is a backlist book that many people have forgetting about. It is a great book that needs to get some attention.

Spain In Our Hearts has over three hundred five-star reviews on Amazon. When you see a nonfiction book with that many five stars you know it will be a good nonfiction book.

Grace read this book a few years ago and loved it. It is a well-researched and well-written book.

She said she knew some about the Spanish Revolution in Europe because it ties in with World War II history, but this book shared so much more history than what she knew about.

The author does a great job of describing Spain during the 1930s. There are some interesting ties with people and authors you will know from American history.

A lot of people have read about the 1930s and The Great Depression in America. Spain In Our Hearts is a great book if you want to learn more about what the rest of the world was going through during that same time period.

  1. I love this! Fountains of Silence was already on my TBR list, but I’m adding the other one to read with it. I like to learn about history and about other places, so this will be interesting to me. Thanks so much!
