My January 2024 reading ended up being fantastic. I had a great start to my reading year.
My reading goals for this year are pretty simple. I want to read more of the books that I own.
When it comes to fiction, I want to focus on authors I have loved in the past. For nonfiction, I want to read more biographies.
I accomplished those goals this month. Most of the books I read this month were ones I have had in my to-be-read stack for a while. I also read two biographies, both Christian biographies, this month.
I read a good mix of fiction and nonfiction. I read five fiction books and four nonfiction.
January 2024 Reads
I am sharing a few thoughts about each book, but for more details, click on the title for a full review.
Fiction
The White Lady by Jacqueline Winspear. I enjoyed this historical mystery. I hope that it becomes a series.
Rules of Civility by Amor Towles. I have had this in my stack to read since I read The Gentleman In Moscow. I love Amor Towles writing. So much happens, and yet at the same time, not a lot happens.
The Ice Swan by J’Nell Ciestielski. This book is set during WWI and the Russian Revolution. It is fine for a clean fiction book, but it was not my favorite. I share more details on why in my full review.
When The World Was Ours by Liz Kessler. I read this YA historical fiction book for a project I am working on. It is about three friends during WWII. I enjoyed this one.
The Magnificent Lives of Marjorie Post by Alison Pataki. This book is about the daughter of C.W. Post, the man who founded Post foods. I knew nothing about the history of Post, so this was interesting to read.
Nonfiction
Catch Me If You Can by Frank W. Abagnale. This one has been in my to be read stack for years. I finally picked it up after we watched the movie. This true crime book was a fun read.
Being Henry by Henry Winkler. I listen to this on audio. Henry Winkler narrates it and I loved that. I did have mixed thoughts on this one so be sure to read my full review.
Christian Nonfiction
Becoming Elisabeth Elliot by Ellen Vaughn. I will share a full review of this soon for a Sunday Reading post, but for now, I will say that I enjoyed it. It will change your view of Elisabeth Elliot. For me, it changed it in a good way. It reminded me that Elisabeth Elliot was human. She was a sinner saved by Grace just like the rest of us.
Elizabeth Prentiss by Sharon James. I love to read biographies. This one is about the author of the well known hymn More Love To Thee. She also wrote the book Stepping Heavenward.
