It is time to share what I read in April!

April was not a great reading month in terms of the number of books I read, but it was a great month in terms of what I read.
I only read one nonfiction book, but it was a five star read. It will be one of my favorite nonfiction books of the year. If you like the real story behind the headlines, I think you will enjoy it.
I also read two historical fiction books that I really enjoyed. I learned so much from reading both of them. They were also the books that inspired me to share my thoughts on the importance of author’s notes.
Even though I didn’t read a lot of books this month, I did read one YA book and listened to one audiobook. Both of which are part of my reading goals for the year.
One of my other reading goals for the year is to read one Christian nonfiction book a month, but I did not meet this goal this month. I have multiple Christian books going right now, but they have been slower reads, so I did not finish one this month.
Now for what I read.
What I Read In April 2026
I am sharing a few thoughts on each book, but you can click the title for more details and a full review.
Fiction

Daughter of Egypt by Marie Benedict is a dual-time book set in 1480 B.C. and post-WWI. I learned so much about ancient Egypt, Egyptian history, and Egypt in the 1920s. This book is a great one for fans of Downton Abbey, because the post-WWI timeline is about the family that the show is based on.

The Martha’s Vineyard Beach and Book Club by Martha Hall Kelly is a WWII historical fiction novel set on Martha’s Vineyard. I loved that this book is based on Martha Hall Kelly’s family and the stories she heard from them.
If you enjoy WWII historical fiction, this is a good one. I also think this would be good for those who don’t read a lot of WWII books because it is set in the U.S. and incorporates a lot of U.S. history into the story.

The Perfect Rom-Com by Melissa Ferguson is a clean rom-com book. This fun rom-com is about an inspiring writer and a literary agent who fall in love. This isn’t my favorite Melissa Ferguson book, but I still enjoyed it for a quick read.
Nonfiction

No One’s Coming by Kevin Hazzard is a book that has not received the attention that it deserves. Do you remember the Ebola outbreak in 2014? This is the story behind the headlines of how two American medical volunteers were rescued and brought back to America. This will be one of my favorite nonfiction books of the year.
YA

The Maestro’s Daughter by Catherine Thrush is a YA historical romance book. This book is set in 1700s Italy. It was good for a clean YA romance, but it definitely read like a YA book. As in I think young adults will like this way better than adults.
Audiobooks

Vera Wong’s Guide to Snooping on a Dead Man by Jesse Q. Sutanto was a fun audiobook. I needed something a little different for my goal of listening to one audiobook a month. I enjoyed book one in the Vera Wong series, so I decided to give this one a try. I liked this one so much that I will be listening to book three on audio when it comes out.
What have you been reading?
That’s still way more than most people read!! I am trying to read more non fiction that isn’t memoir – I tend to stray towards that, so the book you read will go on my list! It seems really good!
