Did you know that we have over four hundred book reviews here on From Our Bookshelf? You can find our full list of book reviews here .
All books that we share are books that we have read. We want to help you find great books, so we only share books that we can give an honest review of.
That means we only share books that we read, and we are working on getting more reviews up. Our goal is to hit five hundred book reviews by the end of the year.
It is summer and that means between vacations, car trips, and a few flights we have had a little more time for reading.
Today, we are sharing twelve recent reads and reviews with you. Click on the book cover or the title to see more information and our full review of the book.
Hello,
I have a seventh grade boy who is an avid reader, especially history books. I was wondering if you could give me more details as far as sexual content/ language, etc in your reviews. That would be extremely helpful as he’s reading above his age level and I have a hard time prereading fast enough for him. Or if you just have a list of suggestions to start with now that would be great too. He’s especially interested in world war 11 but other nonfiction history as well.
Thanks! Dorothy Esh
First of all this is a great question and I totally remember those days with my kids. All three of my kids read well above age level. We have thought about adding sexual content reviews, but for various reasons haven’t yet. One of the reasons we haven’t really come up with a good way to rate that. Do you have thoughts? Would just a contains sexual content be enough to let you know or would more details be helpful? As far as your question I think it would make a great post topic! I am sure others are looking for the same thing. I will talk to my kids and see if you can come up with a list of clean interesting nonfiction books for that age level. So look for that post soon! I just asked my daughter though and off the top of her head she mentioned these and from what she can remember they are all clean as far as sexual content. Although she said it has been awhile since she read some of them. Not all of them are WWII but they are nonfiction. I hope that helps and gives you a few ideas for now. I also included a link to a post about books for boys that we wrote awhile ago. It is all fiction books, but they are books that my son enjoyed. My daughter also used to enjoy Presidential biography books or books about the history of the White House. Those vary though on the content depending on the President that the book is on. I hope that helps!

Thanks! This will be a good place to start!! And I realize it would be a hard thing to rate as people’s tolerance level will vary greatly. I’ll be watching to see if you come up with something 🙂
