It is time to share what I read in June 2025.
I usually post my what I read posts the first week of the month, so June’s post is a little late.
June was not a great reading month for me, mainly because life was tough in June.

My mother-in-law passed away the first week of June, so the first half of June involved a lot of time with family and friends, planning a funeral and celebrating her life. All of that meant that my reading time was limited.
I ended up reading five books in June, which is about half what I usually read. I am going to call it a win, though, because amid all the hard stuff in June, I did still manage to find a little bit of time to read.
What I Read In June
I am sharing a few brief thoughts on each book. Click on the title of the book for more information and a full review.
Fiction

The Girl From Normandy by Rachel Sweasey. This is a dual timeline WWII historical fiction book set in France. I love WWII historical fiction, but there were multiple things about this book that made it a two star book for me. I don’t often rate books that bad, but this one was just not for me.

The Love Haters by Katherine Center. This is Katherine Center’s latest release. It is getting some mixed reviews, but I enjoyed it. If you have read it, I would love to hear what you thought.

The Girls of Good Fortune by Kristina McMorris. Set in 1888, Portland, Oregon. It is about Chinatown and the Shanghai Tunnels and deals with some tough topics like racism, prostitution, alcoholism, and opium. Kristina McMorris also packs a lot of history and historical events into this book.
If you like historical fiction about little-known events, I think you might enjoy this one.
Nonfiction

This Is Going To Hurt by Adam Kay. This medical memoir was written in 2017. I really enjoyed this memoir, because it was so different than any of my recent reads. I do not work in the medical field, but I have several family members that do. I am sure many medical workers can relate to this book.

Boat Baby by Vicky Nguyen. This is another memoir. This one is about Vicky and her family’s escape from Vietnam and adjusting to life in America. I listened to this one on audio and enjoyed the fact that the author narrated it.
Lynn, I’m sorry for the loss of your mother-in-law. I hope you have many fond memories of her.
